Set the Darkness Reeling: The Unique Combo of Irish Folk and Indie Rock

An album full of classic Irish folk influences, The Winter Codes are releasing their LP Set The Darkness Reeling. With a thrashy and unique sound, The Winter Codes pay homage to their home country. Their lead single, Too Sly to Die is a beautiful mixture of Irish folk and indie rock with each instrument complimenting and balancing one another.

Even more poignant, the enchanting sound involves a heartfelt tribute to their fallen band member.  Their music video for the track captures their patriotic spirit as it features the duo sat in Dublin’s landmark pub, The Cobblestones. The bar and Irish music are intertwined with one another as they have hosted traditional Irish music for decades. The Winter Codes are undoubtedly and unapologetically Irish and they’ve brought a refreshing new sound to the rock scene.

“We got the idea to record an EP of five of our songs which then became the Set The Darkness Reeling album.”

Set the Darkness Reeling will undoubtedly be a rock album worth listening to. Impressively, the duo visited the famous Grouse Lodge recording studio, which has housed Michael Jackson, and now has become the set for The Winter Codes’ dedicated and emotionally charged LP.

The collaborations on this album involve the talents of Daithi Meila (Irish band Jig Jam), folk singer Lisa Loughrey, and engineer Sean Montgomery-Dietz. Together, they have created an LP that honours both the music they create and the memory of their band mate, Paul Walshe. The Winter Codes have truly created a masterpiece; the flow and combination of rock and Irish folk music produces a unique sound that captures listeners.
