The 606 Club will celebrate its 50th anniversary in October 2026, honouring half a century as one of London’s most enduring independent music venues. Since its beginnings in 1976, the Chelsea club has built a reputation for bringing musicians and audiences together through a shared passion for live performance.
Originally based in a basement at 606 Kings Road, the venue later moved to 90 Lots Road, where it continues to operate today. Across its history, the Club has remained closely connected to the music community, offering a space where creativity can thrive and musicians can develop their craft.
A major figure in the 606 Club’s story is Steve Rubie, who took over the venue in October 1976. Originally trained as a dentist, Rubie moved into music in the early 1970s, studying Classical Flute at Trinity College London before becoming a professional musician. What began as an unexpected opportunity became a lifelong commitment to the Club.
Reflecting on the milestone, Rubie has said: “Keeping the Club going for 50 years is a triumph of optimism over experience!” His leadership, combined with the work of dedicated staff and musicians, has helped the 606 Club become a lasting part of London’s cultural history.
